Hupe Teaching Excellence Award Winner Announced
Emily Pons, Perry Lecompton High School/Middle School Vocal Music teacher, was announced as the 2022 Doris and Dale Hupe Teaching Excellence Award winner on May 20th during a staff meeting.
Doris and Dale Hupe were long-serving members of the USD #343 Board of Education and strong education supporters in USD #343. Doris Hupe's estate provided for an award given "to the outstanding teacher of the district each year, particularly the teacher who most motivates students to want to learn and obtain more education."
Six outstanding teachers were nominated for the Hupe Teaching Award by their fellow staff members. This year's nominees were Kelli Jewell, Jessica Christman, Carleigh Whitman, Janelle Carey, Rita Lesser, and Emily Pons . Each nominee provided a written response to a question regarding student motivation, and finally, each was interviewed by the selection committee.
As the 2022 Hupe Teaching Excellence Award winner, Emily received a plaque and a $1,000 award.
