PLHS Welcomes New Business Teacher

Matthew Pendry joins the PLHS staff this year as our new business teacher.  Matthew grew up in Lawrence KS and is a graduate of Free State High School. He graduated from Washburn this past year with a degree in Psychology as well as minors in Business and History.

When asked why he wanted to teach at PLHS he responded; “USD 343 was always appealing to me because I grew up in Lawrence and worked briefly in Perry. In addition, I like that Perry Lecompton High School is smaller which will allow me to give my students more individualized attention.”

Mr. Pendry wanted to become a teacher to make a positive difference in students’ lives, while also giving them the tools to take the next step in their educational or work pursuits.  Although this is his first teaching job, he is looking forward to watching his students grow both in and out of the classroom.

In his spare time he enjoys playing disc golf, he plays almost every day.  He also played baseball while at Free State and won a State Championship in 2015!  A fun fact about Mr. Pendry is he has attended every KU football home game since he was a baby.

Matthew is a lifetime Kansan and is passionate about creating positive change for our local youth.  He believes that education “is one of the most important tools that we can give children and adults to succeed later in life.”
