Retirement Reception Announced for PLHS Retirees

Perry-Lecompton High School would like to announce a retirement reception to recognize staff members retiring from PLHS at the conclusion of the 2020-2021 school year.

The reception will be held in the Perry-Lecompton High School Library, 404 Lecompton Rd., Perry, from 4 PM to 6 PM, Wednesday, May 19.

PLHS teachers and staff retiring after the 2020-2021 school year include:

  • Mark Armstrong, who teaches social studies and has coached football and basketball at PLHS, has been a teacher at the school for 22 years. Mark has been in education for 36 years at three different school districts, including two in Iowa. In retirement, Mark has no specific plans, but does plan on continuing to help broadcast football and basketball games on the USD 343 Media YouTube channel.

  • Mary Hurd, who has served PLHS for 24 years, started as the PLHS Attendance Secretary, and most recently, as the PLMS/PLHS Bookeeper and Athletics/Administrative Assistant. Mary plans on getting a part time job, checking off her bucket list, gardening, canning, baking and enjoying her grandchildren.

  • Pat Hupfauf has taught Health, Physical Education and coached basketball at Perry Elementary School, Perry-Lecompton Middle School and Perry Lecompton High School for 22 years, and has been in Education for 37 total years. Pat has been hired to be a rural mail carrier for the US Postal Service in the Berryton area, and will be employed by the Kansas City Chiefs as an Event Operations Assistant. Pat also plans on continuing to teach part time at KU, and travel.

  • Pat Winchester has been in education for 28 years, and has been teaching Industrial Technology at PLMS and PLHS for 17 years. Pat is unsure about his retirement plans, but he does plan on traveling.
