Exclusion From School:
If a child develops any of these during the day, parents will be called immediately to pick up the child. Please be sure that we have an accurate daytime number on file.
Chicken Pox - Each person with varicella shall remain in home isolation until vesicles become dry and crusted except when seeking medical care.
Diarrhea- 24 hours from last episode
Diphtheria Cutaneous and Pharyngeal- Each person shall remain in home isolation until: two consecutive negative cultures from both nose and throat specimens or lesion are attained at least 24 hours apart and at least 24 hours after completion of antimicrobial therapy OR two sequential pairs of cultures shall be obtained after symptoms resolve and no sooner than 15 days after onset of symptoms if appropriate antimicrobial therapy is not followed.
Fever- 100 degrees or greater. Students must be fever-free for 24 hours without the use of fever-reducing medication before returning to school.
Fifths Disease- 24 hours fever free without fever reducing medications.
Hand Foot and Mouth Disease- 24 hours fever free without fever reducing medications
Head Lice - Students will be checked for lice when they present symptoms such as excessive scratching or complaints. Once the presence of head lice is verified, the parent will be notified so that treatment may begin as soon as the child reaches home. We will check all family members once student is recognized to have head lice. Medication to treat the infestation may be purchased over-the-counter or may be prescribed by a physician. After the parent or guardian indicates on the “USD #343 Notice to Parent” form the date treatment began and the name of the topical anti-parasitic medication applied, the child may return to school. When a child exhibiting anyf these conditions has been in class part of the day, notes may be sent home to inform families of classmates of the situation. Due to privacy considerations, the student will not be identified.
Influenza/COVID/RSV- Persons with influenza are required to remain in home isolation until fever free for 24 hours without the aid of fever reducing medications.
Measles- Persons with measles are required to remain in home isolation for 4 days following the onset of rash, except when seeking medical care.
Mumps- Persons with mumps are required to remain in home isolation for 9 days from the onset of any symptoms and at least 5 days following the onset of parotitis, except when seeking medical care.
Pertussis (Whooping Cough)- Each infected person shall remain in respiratory isolation for 3 weeks if untreated or until completion of an appropriate antibiotic.
Pink Eye: after starting antibiotic therapy
Scabies - Children who are infested should be excluded from school until treatment with an appropriate antiparasitic drug has begun.
Ringworm - Cases may attend school if receiving treatment, but should not participate in athletic activities involving skin-to-skin contact until skin lesions are completely healed.
Rubella- remain in home isolation for 7 days following onset of rash.
Vomiting- 24 hours after last episode
