Kansas State Assessment Dates Approaching

Each year, Perry-Lecompton students are required to complete the state assessment in subject areas determined by the State of Kansas. Depending on grade level, students may be tested in English Language Arts, Mathematics, and Science. Each tested area has two sessions which last approximately 45 minutes each. The Department of Education also requires a Task Assessment for History, Government, and Social Studies. A task assessment is project-based and completed within the classroom during a time determined by the teacher. Scores from this are submitted to the Department of Education in late May or early June. Since the HGSS Task Assessment is completed in class, students do not need to plan appointments around this assessment. Scheduled assessments by subject area for the 2023-2024 school year are listed below by grade level.

Grade 1 –    No State Assessment Required

Grade 2 –    No State Assessment Required

Grade 3 –   English Language Arts and Mathematics

Assessment schedules have been set by individual buildings and must fall within the state-established assessment window, which runs from March 18 through April 19. Due to the difficulty in scheduling make-up assessments, please make every attempt to have your child in school on designated appropriate grade-level state assessment dates. Due to unforeseen circumstances, the assessment schedule may change so we hope parents will bookmark the following link for future reference. To ensure that each student can perform to the best of his or her ability on testing days, our teachers continually work hard to create lessons that meet established state standards in assigned subject areas. Families can help in this important aspect of our district's success by watching for notes from the schools about testing dates and trying hard to have students at school on the scheduled days.  Additionally, making an extra effort to ensure your child gets plenty of rest the night before and a nutritious breakfast the morning of all assessment dates will be beneficial. Together, families and school district personnel can partner to plan for a successful state assessment experience.

Questions regarding your child’s assessments can be directed to their teacher or building test coordinator.  Building test coordinators are: PLHS: Mark Scherschligt  PLMS: Casey Webb and PLES – Audrey Trowbridge or Mark Lamb  Additionally, you may contact the USD 343 district test coordinator, Josh Woodward
