COVID-19 Guidelines Updated 8-24-22

You will find updated information from KDHE and our local health departments in the links below.  Feel free to review all information.  As we receive updates, we will post them at www.usd343.net.  Here is a quick summary of current guidance;

  • If you are sick, stay home.  Individuals must be fever free (without fever-reducing medication for 24 hours).
  • It is the responsibility of the individual or family to monitor for signs of COVID-19.
  • If you test positive- Stay home for a minimum of 5 days from the day symptoms begin. If symptoms have resolved/improved on day 5 and you have been fever-free for 24 hours without the use of fever-reducing medication, you can return to normal activities on days 6-10 IF you wear a well-fitting mask at all times when around others.
  • Notify the school if you test positive.
  • The school is NOT conducting contact tracing.  However, the school will do its best to notify classes, teams, or groups of a positive case and potential exposure.
  • Exposure is defined as within 6 feet of a confirmed infected person for a cumulative total of 15 minutes or more over a 24-hour period.
  • Staff and students should monitor for symptoms up to 10 days after exposure to a positive case.
  • USD 343 will have antigen tests available for students and staff if they wish to test.  Tests are available for students and staff at the District Office from 7:45 am to 3:45 pm on regular school days.  We ask that you call the District office (785) 597-5138 to schedule a time to test.  We also have tests available for students at the school buildings during the school day if needed.

Please be aware of the change in guidance, particularly the change in wording related to close contacts and quarantine guidance.  You will now notice the words “recommended” or “should.” Last year’s guidance included more requirements than the current version.

It is the hope of USD 343 that we can return our focus to the District’s top priority of educating students and providing opportunities for students to be involved in school activities.  Do not hesitate to contact your child’s school, the school nursing staff, or the District Office with questions.
