Janet Tust Retires

USD #343 would like to recognize Janet Tust as she retires from her time with the district. We wish her well in her next steps!

Janet has served our district as a school psychologist for the past 32 years. She has served both Lecompton and Perry Elementary schools. She began her career in Jacksonville, Illinois, working one year for the Four Rivers Special Education Cooperative prior to coming to Kansas.

Throughout her career, Janet has supported young children, their families, and their teachers. During her career with the district, Janet provided a skilled eye for young children and the ability to bring supports, interventions and plans to the table to help children be successful.

As Janet takes the next steps in her life, she plans to walk lots of miles, run even more miles, visit friends and family, and make the most of every day. Janet shared that she has so many things she’d like to see and try and do and that she will enjoy each day! She added that she’s been in a school environment for the last 53 years, from the time she began preschool until the present, so she doesn’t really know anything else. She will miss the children first and foremost, the laughter in the hallways, professional collaboration and program planning for students.

Over her years, Janet has seen quite a few changes including "bag phones" for cars when she first started at Keystone. Going "paperless" was not conceivable. Texting, Adobe, Zoom meetings! She would have never imagined learning to work through a pandemic. The ability to pivot and provide education in a new way might have never taken place had we not had to do it with no notice. Some of these changes led to new and innovative ways to teach and learn!

Janet shared that Keystone Learning Services provided her the opportunity to work with some wonderful leaders and colleagues. She worked in homes, daycares, preschools, and elementary schools She has many, many funny and touching stories about the families she’s interacted with but some of her favorite memories are watching students including her own two Perry Lecompton High School graduates, Anna and Riley, take the tools given them and use them to create their own stories and lives!

As Janet says goodbye, she shares a big thank you to everyone at USD 343. She’s truly enjoyed going to work every day! It's been a great ride! She thanks you all for your support each and every day. To her administrators, she applauds your strength and determination. To her teachers and support staff, you are the lifeline for many of our most vulnerable learners. Thank you for your daily commitment to our children.

Janet’s husband, Bob, daughter, Anna and son, Riley, will be waiting to help her enjoy her retirement!

Best wishes and thank you, Janet!
