PLHS Welcomes New Teachers

PLHS Welcomes three new teachers this year. Courtney Jarvis, and Bruce Davies join our staff to teach science classes, and Allison Molleker is our new Business teacher. When you see these teachers next fall, make sure to introduce yourself and welcome them to the PLHS community.

Bruce Davies will be teaching Chemistry and Physics as well as our Earth Space Science classes.  Mr. Davies grew up in Kinsley Kansas.  His Junior and Senior year of high school he was accepted and attended school at the Kansas Academy of Mathematics and Science at Fort Hays State University.  After high school he attended Washburn University and received his Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry.

This is Mr. Davies’s first year as a teacher, he did his student teaching at Topeka High School.  He is excited to work hands on with our students and dispel the myth that science is boring and lecture heavy.  Bruce believes that “Students learn better when they are doing.”  Mr. Davies wanted to come to USD 343 due to the size of the district, and the opportunities that kids have here at PLHS.

Mr. Davies’s parents now live in Holton, he has two brothers one at K-State, and his younger brother is in the KAMS program at Fort Hays.  He used to breed geckos and currently does own two snakes! He enjoys computers and is currently collecting parts to build one.  He was involved with Track and Field and enjoys watching track meets.

Courtney Jarvis is joining PLHS to teach Biology and general science.  Mr. Jarvis comes to us after six years teaching at Highland Park High School in Topeka.  He has often driven by PLHS and had a desire to check us out. After the interview he felt like this was a productive and friendly environment that he wanted to be a part of.

Mr. Jarvis was born in the Wasatch Mountain Range of Northern Utah, he later moved and spent most of his school years in Olathe KS.  His senior year he moved to Columbia MO where he completed High School at Hickman High School.  After High School he attended The University of Kansas.

Mr. Jarvis became a teacher because of the influence of Carol Williamson who taught him as a seventh-grade student and again when he was in college.  When asked what he enjoys most about being a teacher he replied; “The students, especially when I have the opportunity to share my love of the sciences with them! I am looking forward to providing students at Perry-Lecompton High School with opportunities to observe, question and analyze the natural world through science.”

Mr. Jarvis is married to his wife Marie Bower, he enjoys running, cycling, backpacking, geology, puzzles, board games, and camping.  He is looking forward to developing new relationships with students, parents, staff and the community to “Help pay forward all the effort and time my teachers have spent to help me get where I am today.”

Allison Molleker joins PLHS as our new Business Teacher. Ms. Molleker grew up in Marion KS and graduated from Marion HS.  In High School Ms. Molleker participated in volleyball, basketball, and softball.  She was also in the girl scouts for 13 years.

After High School she attended Emporia State University and earned her degree in Business Education.  She finished her student teaching this past year at Emporia High School teaching Business Essentials, Entrepreneurship, and Computer Applications.  She also interned in a Personal Finance Class in the fall.

Ms. Molleker decided to be a teacher after helping to coach younger students in basketball and softball.  She found she really enjoyed watching them grow and teaching them new skills.  She looks forward to watching our kids grow academically and socially.  She believes that teaching students skills and knowledge that can be used post-secondary is important.  Ms. Molleker says “It is important to me for students to be prepared for whatever they do after high school.”

Ms. Molleker looks forward to getting to work with experienced educators and getting to know every student and their interest.  She also looks forward to learning more about the Perry-Lecompton community and becoming a part of it.
