Rhett Scrimsher Retires from Perry Lecompton

Thirty-one years in education may seem like a long time to some, but for Rhett Scrimsher, those years passed by quickly. Mr. Scrimsher started his career in 1989 at Osawatomie Middle School where he taught Industrial Arts to students in grades 6 through 8. He began his teaching career at Perry-Lecompton in 1991, and has worked in multiple administrative positions, including Assistant Principal at Williamstown Elementary, and later an Assistant Principal at PLHS/PLMS, as well as district-wide Transportation Director.

Mr. Scrimsher stated that he will miss his classes, coaching and especially the kids and staff of Perry-Lecompton. He noted he has been involved with school for over 50 years now when you include his own schooling from Kindergarten through graduating college. Mr. Scrimsher shared, “I have been truly blessed and proud of making a contribution to the most honorable profession there is…. “TEACHING!”  Mr. Scrimsher considers computer technology as one of the major changes he has experienced from early in his career to now. “Keeping up is both challenging and expensive, but well worth it” says Mr. Scrimsher. His favorite stories in education are the stories told by his former students. He shared that if something about his class stood out and was memorable to a former student, then he wins.

Although retirement comes with more free time, Mr. Scrimsher already has a full schedule.  He plans to spend time catching up on some projects around his home and farm and spend more time outdoors enjoying his passions, which include hunting, fishing, and off-roading.  He and his wife Lisa, also a retired Perry-Lecompton teacher, recently purchased a “Toy Hauler” and plan to do more traveling as long as they can afford the gas! Volunteering is also something under consideration.

Mr. Scrimsher and his wife have three children. Drew, a 2014 PLHS graduate, Noah, a 2016 PLHS graduate, and Sophie, who will be starting her junior year at PLHS. The Perry-Lecompton community wishes Mr. Scrimsher health and happiness during his well-deserved retirement. Thank you for your many contributions to the students of Perry-Lecompton, and to the community.
