PLHS Recognized by Kansas Board of Regents
PLHS was recognized this year as a winner in the new Kansas FAFSA Challenge. FAFSA stands for the Federal Application for Free Student Aid. As a collaboration project between the Kansas Board of Regents (KBOR) & Kansas State Department of Education (KSDE), the Kansas FAFSA Challenge began in February 2021 as a friendly competition to improve our state-wide FAFSA completion rate. Schools were divided into their KSHSAA athletic divisions. Each division has at least two winners, one award goes to the school with the Highest FAFSA Completion Percentage and the other award recognizes the school with the Most Improved FAFSA Completion Percentage from the previous academic year. Perry-Lecompton High School was recognized as most improved over the 2019-2020 school year with a completion rate increase of 76%.
Mr. Scherschligt works hard with our seniors to make sure they know the deadlines and benefits of filling out the FAFSA early. Each year the FAFSA opens on October 1st and it is in the best interest of college-bound seniors to apply as early as possible to improve their chances of qualifying for the most grant, scholarship, and work-study aid.
Mr. Scherschligt will share more information throughout the year as deadlines approach. Maybe this year's senior class will be recognized next year in the Highest Completion Rate category!
PLHS's achievement was recognized at the KSDE/KBOR board meeting on Wednesday, Sept. 15, 2021. Congratulations to Mr. Scherschligt and the class of 2021 for all their efforts. Here is a link to the complete list of winners. FAFSA Challenge Winners
