PLHS Welcomes New Spanish Teacher Robert Weinstein

New to the PLHS staff this year is Mr. Robert Weinstein.  Mr. Weinstein is replacing Mrs. Hoopes as our Spanish teacher, who has moved on to a position in administration.   Mr. Weinstein grew up in Overland Park KS and attended High School at SM East.  He then went on to college at The University of Kansas.

He has a wide variety of abilities, and his past work experiences include 11 years teaching Spanish and Latin at St. James Academy in Lenexa, as well as one year teaching English in Hangzhou China.  He has also spent two years teaching Greek and Roman Mythology at KU.

Mr. Weinstein loves to learn and that is why he wanted to become a teacher.  He believes that teachers get to learn new things alongside their students every day.   He most enjoys working with students reading and learning about world cultures, and learning languages to prepare students for adventurous travels.   When asked why come to USD 343 he replied;  “I have been familiar with the area around Perry and Lecompton for years as a kayaker and nature enthusiast. More recently, my son and I have been following the Union Pacific trains out of North Lawrence to near Perry and I look forward to making this beautiful drive every day and telling my son about the trains that I see on my way to and from school.”

Mr. Weinstein is looking forward to getting to know his students and watching them develop their language skills.  He is excited to be part of a smaller program so that he gets to teach students longer than just one academic year.  He wants students to know that he loves chatting with students about NBA basketball, Pokéman, art, music, or new things that he knows nothing about.

Mr. Weinstein is married to his wife Kelsey and they have one son Adrian as well as another son on the way, arriving this summer.  In his free time, he enjoys traveling he has visited 35 countries and hopes to make it to 100.   Please take the time when school starts to meet and welcome Mr. Weinstein to the USD 343 community.
