PLHS Welcomes New Math Teacher Kalen Hilst

PLHS welcomes Kalen Hilst to the Math department.  Kalen comes to us from Newton Kansas where he has taught Algebra and Geometry courses for the past two years.  Kalen is a graduate of Hutchinson High School and attended college at The University of Kansas.  He obtained his teaching license from Fort Hays State University.

Kalen became a teacher after merging his interest in a career in the math field as well as his enjoyment of working with high school students.  This combined with an uncle who has been an HS Math teacher for 55 years who helped guide him down this path.

Kalen says he really enjoys the day-to-day interactions and watching the students grow.  When deciding to make a move he was attracted to PLHS because of the redesign process.  He also heard from others about the positive stories of the USD 343 School District.

Kalen looks forward to striving each day is to make sure that the people that he is able to work with and teach grow in some way from the previous day, and he hopes to have that type of impact on the students and his fellow teachers at this school.

In his spare time, he likes to play basketball and golf and is a big KU and KC Chiefs fan.   He invites anyone that wants to get to know him better to reach out in August and make time to have a conversation.  Kalen prides himself on his transparency and communication.   Please take the time this fall to reach out and welcome Kalen to the PLHS community!
