Welcome to PLMS/PLHS New Vocal Music Teacher

USD 343 is excited to welcome Mrs. Emily Pons as our new Vocal music teacher.  Emily comes to us from Jefferson County North where she has been teaching K-12 Vocal music the past three years.

Emily grew up in Plano TX and attended high school at Trinity Christian Academy in Addison, TX.  She then attended the University of Oklahoma and graduated in 2015.  While at the University of Oklahoma, studying music, she learned to play the recorder with her nose! She is married to her husband Daniel and currently has no children yet.  In her spare time, she enjoys gardening, playing pickleball, and a myriad of different coffee brewing methods.  She also has participated in concerts with the Lawrence Civic choir and in performances with Theatre Lawrence.

Mrs. Pons grew up the child of an educator.  She decided to become an educator because she saw first hand the impact her parents had on generations of students.  Mrs. Pons believes that particularly in Music Education, there's a unique way that teachers get to connect with their students, and she also has been a student of several incredible teachers who have influenced her character, faith, and her sense of self in such a positive way.  When asked why she became a teacher she said, Teaching allows me the opportunity to serve future generations through the power of music - what's not to love?"  Her favorite part of being a teacher is getting to walk a student through the frustration of not understanding something to the "lightbulb moment" of realization.

Please make sure to introduce yourself and welcome Mrs. Pons when you see her in August.
