Hupe Teaching Excellence Award Winner Announced

Pat Zimmerman, Perry Lecompton Middle School 5th grade teacher, was announced as the 2020 Doris and Dale Hupe Teaching Excellence Award winner on May 21st during an online staff meeting.  

Doris and Dale Hupe were each long-serving members of the USD #343 Board of Education and strong supporters of education in USD #343.  Doris Hupe's will provided for an award given "to the outstanding teacher of the district each year, particularly the teacher who most motivates students to want to learn and obtain more education."

Five outstanding teachers were nominated for the Hupe Teaching Award by their fellow staff members in district schools. This year's nominees were Terra Bumgardner, Sandy Gantz, Pat Zimmerman, Laura Klaassen and Kelly Hoopes .  Each nominee provided a written response to a question regarding student motivation and finally, each was interviewed by the selection committee. 

As the winner of the 2020 Hupe Teaching Excellence Award, Pat received a plaque and a $1,000 award.
