Senior Kaws Gaining Real World Experiences

Students in Mrs. Lesser’s Community Connections course have been working all semester to learn and explore more about their future career choices. Each student has had the opportunity to participate in two job shadows this semester as well as an off-campus mock interview. We would like to thank the following workplaces for hosting our students: St. Francis Hospital, RD Johnson, Kansas Statehouse, Hamm Companies, Shawnee Heights Elementary, Valeo, Happy Shirt Printing, Topeka Zoo, KSNT, First State Bank and Trust, Craig Home Care, Washburn University, Children’s Learning Center, Suzy Bee Bakery, Green Pastures Preschool, Oskaloosa Veterinarian Clinic, and Eileen’s Cookies.

In addition to exploring their own careers, learning more about the expectations of the workplace, and creating a job acquisition portfolio, students in this class also completed two service type projects. They planned and hosted the COW (Careers on Wheels) event for our district’s third grade students and they developed, created and led a teaching activity for our district’s first grade students. Starting in January, seven of these students will be participating in a semester long internship. We would like to thank the following workplaces for participating in our internship program this year: Suzy Bee Bakery, Budget Repair, Democratic Headquarters, Perry Lecompton Elementary Schools, the Topeka Zoo, and Briggs Dodge.
