PLHS Band at 64th Annual Band Day

by Mike Maloun

September 21, 2011

The PLHS Band participated in the 64th annual KU Band Day on September 10th. The band has participated in KU band day many times in the past and has a long standing tradition of performing at the annual event.
Saturday started with a parade down Mass Street with 34 other bands. This parade is a great chance for spectators to see the various school bands from across Kansas.
After the parade the band rehearsed at Memorial Stadium with the other bands as well as the KU band for a half-time performance. This is a great opportunity for the band to see how a college band works and hopefully gets the students excited about continuing to play at the next level.
The half-time show was well received; it consisted of four of the KU fight songs as well as ending with the traditional Patriotic Finale arranged by past KU director of bands Bob Foster. KU went on to win the game on a last minute touchdown to end what was a very exciting game and day.
The band is looking forward to attending band day again in the future.
