Perry-Lecompton Bands Have a Great Spring

On Wednesday May 8th the Perry-Lecompton Bands presented their final concert.  This is the 12th year for the Cavalcade of Bands.  Cavalcade is defined as a large gathering.  This is certainly a large gathering as almost 200 band students in grades 5-12 participate in the concert.

It is exciting to see the progression as we start with 5th grade and work all the way up to HS Band, ending with a combined version of America using all 200 band students.  All the bands have had a great year of learning and performing.  The 7th and 8th grade band performed recently at the Worlds of Fun Music Festival where they received a “2” or excellent rating.  The PLHS band in April competed at the KSHSAA State Large Group Festival where they received a “1” or Superior rating for the 4th straight year.  Also PLHS had 6 students that qualified for the State Solo and Small Ensemble festival in Andover where Ben Maloun, Anna Seib, and Lillian Seib all received “1” ratings on their solos and the Clarinet ensemble of Lillian Seib, Taryn Wilkins, Amanda Jeter, Amber Pearson earned a “2” rating.  Congratulations to all these individuals as well as the whole PLHS and PLMS bands for a great contest season.

The bands also take time to recognize the seniors and their parents that have participated in band for the past 7 years.  These seniors are Tony Bayless, Samantha Buchanan, Korbe Bohac, Alex Callahan, Julie Clement, Mikaela Daniels, Kelsey Kasson, Megan Kasson, Jeff Kirk, Melissa Schmidt,  Anna Seib, and  Lillian Seib.  This has been a great senior class, and they will be missed greatly by the band.
