by Connie Thornton
July 28, 2008
Welcome back to the 2008-09 school year! Summer vacation is coming to a close and students, parents and teachers are gearing up for the new school year.
New teachers joining our staff this year are:
Andrea Dennehy – Library Media Specialist
Alayna Stewart – Music
Michelle Wilson – Resource room
It is our intent to continue to provide effective educational programs for your children in an enjoyable environment. This summer approximately 80% of our staff attended school related workshops or in-services which demonstrates how dedicated the teachers are to providing the most appropriate educational experiences for our children.
An important component of an effective school is parent involvement. I would like to encourage all parents to become a partner in educating your children. It is important for parents to set high standards for children at home and in school. Encourage your child to give their best efforts in everything they do. You may show your interest through volunteer work in various activities or projects during the school year. For more information on volunteer activities please contact the school office 597-5156 or through email cthornton@usd343.org.
Important dates:
Enrollment: July 30th 1-7 pm PLHS; July 31st 9-12 & 1-4 pm PES
Sneak Peek: August 14th 5:00 pm GECC 6:00 pm PES
1st Day of School: August 15th 8:10-3:10
Back to School Evening: August 28th 6:30 – 8:00 pm PES
Sneak Peek provides an opportunity for children and parents to meet their new teacher, see their new classroom and drop off their school supplies. This event seems to alleviate some of the stress that occurs on the first day of school.
The ‘Back to School’ event is an opportunity for parents to learn about their child’s daily schedule and classroom expectations. More information on this event will be mailed out closer to the actual date.
I am extremely excited to begin my second year and look forward to working with all of you. I know that together we can make this and exciting and productive school experience!
