Personal Security

Safety and security are the foundation of all learning.  The district takes the responsibility to safeguard students and staff very seriously.

Physical safety

The exterior doors to each building are kept locked at all times that class is in session.  Entry is permitted by office staffs after they preview the patron through video monitors.

Every adult in the buildings wears a badge indicating whether they are Staff or a Visitor.  This includes substitute teachers and vendors.

Surveillance cameras are in place inside and outside of every building to provide digital images 24 hours a day.

Providence Working Canines provides unscheduled sweeps of the PLMS and PLHS facilities to locate illicit drugs including tobacco products.

Emotional safety

All staff and students participate in annual bully behavior awareness training.  Definitions of bullying behavior are found in each student handbook.

All students from Preschool through eighth grade have regular classes with guidance counselors to instill and maintain high standards of personal behavior at school and at school-sponsored events.

All teachers are trained in research-based discipline procedures to use with students.  Details are available from each school principal.

Open Door policy

Every administrator and guidance counselor has an "open door" policy in which any member of our school community can come in and raise any security issue, without going through any other channels.
