PLMS Welcomes Matt Tennyson

July 09, 2018

PLMS is excited to welcome Mr. Matt Tennyson to the 6th-grade staff.  Matt grew up in the small town of Truman Minnesota.  He attended college in Storm Lake IA at Buena Vista University, where he received his Bachelor's Degree in Education, as well as playing four years of collegiate soccer.

Mr. Tennyson spent last year teaching 5th grade at Granada Huntley East Chain in Minnesota.  He taught all the core subjects and was also the elementary team leader for their positive behavioral intervention program.  When asked why he wanted to be a teacher Mr. Tennyson said "I was very blessed throughout my time in grade school and high school to have some incredible teachers and coaches. I will never forget the time I walked into my 12th grade English class and my teacher told me how much she cared about me, and how she will always have my back. She hardly knew who I was, yet told the entire class how much she cares about us. I always wanted to give that same feeling back to students."  He enjoys knowing the impact he can have on a young person's day.

In his spare time, Mr. Tennyson is a passionate sports fan.  He spends a lot of time outside of school coaching soccer, umpiring a baseball game or refereeing basketball.  Being from Minnesota he says "I spend some time fishing.  You have to with over 10,000 lakes!"

Mr. Tennyson said he choose to come to PLMS after hearing from some local contacts about what an incredible school district USD 343 is. He is looking forward to becoming a part of the family atmosphere. Having grown up in a similar environment, he knows this is a place he will be successful.

We are looking forward to having Matt as part of our staff next year and we know he will be an outstanding addition.
