Winter Sports Preview

Winter sports are under way for the Kaw sports teams.  Sixteen grapplers have reported for Coach Roberts and Coach Robb this wrestling season and are headlined by returning State qualifiers Braden Woodson (106) and Dalton Kahle (113).  The team is off to a good start as they earned a runner-up finish at the Mission Valley tournament. The wrestling schedule this year will be challenging as they will be in the Clay Center Tournament, Bobcat Classic, Sadowski Tournament and the Fredonia Invitational.  Come out and catch some wrestling action on Thursday, January 4 as the Kaws have their only home meet of the year.

The girls basketball team will be young this year as they only have one senior on the roster, returning starter Megan Fast.  Playing time at the varsity level will be filled by juniors and sophomores as Coach Smith continues the rebuilding process. The numbers participating are up and the Lady Kaws will play their trademark style of scrappy basketball as they take on a strong schedule of Big 7 opponents.

Optimism runs high for the boys basketball program as the team enters the season with a preseason #7 ranking in 3A.  All-League performers Canaan Daniels and Toby Baker will look to have productive senior years as they lead a strong nucleus of returning players.  The basketball program continues to improve at all levels and numbers participating are at an all-time high in the Coach Swafford era.  The Big 7 schedule will provide a challenge every night and features state powers Nemaha Central, Holton and Sabetha.

This winter looks to be an exciting season for the Perry-Lecompton teams. Come out and support the Kaws!
