Sports Facility Renovations Taking Shape
If you’ve recently noticed the football field bleachers and old blue press box missing as you’ve driven by the high school, it’s because much needed sports facility renovations are under way.
The Perry-Lecompton USD #343 Board of Education recently approved upgrades to a number of the district’s sports facilities. The board took action in October and November after many months of planning and discussions. Work has already begun on several of the projects in preparation for this year’s track & field and softball seasons and next year’s football and tennis seasons. Below is a brief overview of the planned projects:
1. Multipurpose Building
Expanded and modernized restroom facilities
Enclosed concession area with electrical and plumbing upgrades
Expanded serving, preparation and storage areas
2. Sidewalks/Patio
Sidewalks installed to bleachers on home and visitor’s sides
Expanded concrete patio areas near concessions and home bleachers
3. Bleachers/Press Box
Aluminum bleacher seating for approximately 1,500 on the home side
10” x 30” seat configuration will allow for added seating comfort and visibility
36’ x 8’ Press box
4. Football Field Lighting
New light poles will be installed
5. Tennis Courts
Two post-tension tennis courts will be built south of the PLHS gym
6. Softball Field (Located adjacent to PES)
All new fencing will be installed around the field including a new backstop
Field lighting and a scoreboard will be installed
New dugouts will be built
It is estimated that the total costs of the facility upgrades will be approximately $850,000. The projects will be financed through a combination of capital outlay funds and a lease purchase agreement.
