Tech Rich Classrooms
by Judy Chamberlain and Josh Woodward
Fifth and sixth grade students' families are in for an eye-opening experience when they come to Orientation on August 19. In addition to the normal back-to-school information, classroom tours will include a look at state-of-the-art white boards with attached projectors, a printer in each classroom, a laptop computer for every two students, student response systems (clickers), new electronic microscopes in each room, and six very excited homeroom teachers!
The new equipment was bought with grant money from the Federal government. As with any new technology, the challenge is in knowing how to set it up and use it! Fortunately, the grant also provided funding for Brandi Turner to work half-time in the 5/6 wing all year long, helping teachers and facilitating lessons in which students are able to use the equipment to complete projects.
The Tech Rich Classrooms will be on display for all patrons at several events in the next year. Once the students have generated some content, they will be ready to show-and-tell. Invitations and announcements about the TRC project will be posted on the district website.
