PLHS National Honor Society Inducts New Members
By Eryn Norton
Troy Aikman, Katie Couric, Elizabeth Dole, and Meryl Streep, what do all of these individuals have in common? They are all members of National Honor Society (NHS) from the high schools they attended. NHS membership not only recognizes students for their accomplishments in and out of school, but challenges them to become involved in more school activities and community service to further develop great leaders.
On the evening of January 28th, 2010 six new members of the Perry-Lecompton High School Chapter of NHS were inducted during a formal candle lighting ceremony. Katherine Volle and Katie Hirsch, co-presidents, performed the ceremony outlining the four characteristics associated with becoming a member. Each member is sworn to uphold these values “to create enthusiasm for scholarship, to stimulate a desire to render service, to promote leadership, and to develop character in the students of secondary schools.”
Congratulations go out to each of our new members!
