DISTRICT AND STATE HONOR CHOIR PERFORMANCES!
“How beautiful is youth! How bright it gleams with its illusions, aspirations, and dreams!
Henry Wadsworth Longfellow (1807-1882)
On February 25th three young ladies from Perry – Lecompton Middle School will perform with the KCDA (Kansas Choral Director’s Association) State Honor Choir at the Century II performance hall in Wichita, KS. Anna Miller (7th Gr) Krystal Thompson (8th Gr) & Dani Winchester (8th Gr) as well as a few other very talented PLMS students sent applications and auditioned CD’s into the KCDA office where over 500 entries were totaled. When the results came back Anna, Krystal & Dani along with 200 other students from all around the state were selected for this year’s KCDA State Treble Honor Choir. These girls have had to learn 5 additional pieces on top of their in-class music literature for this honor choir performance and in doing so have had to learn to speak/sing; German, Hebrew, & Pacific Islander! They have worked hard to make sure they help pay their way for this opportunity by working concessions for multiple sports events. These three young ladies will be the first ever to represent PLMS in the KCDA State Treble Honor Choir and this community should be very proud!
Last fall eight students traveled to Shawnee Mission South High School to represent Perry-Lecompton Middle & High School at the KMEA (Kansas Music Educator’s Association) Northeast Honor Choir Festival. This workshop/performance opportunity allows eight students from all middle and/or junior high’s and high schools in the Northeast area to attend on behalf or their specific schools. They have the opportunity to perform with over 250 of the areas best voices in that age group for an audience of thousands! For PLMS & PLHS those incredibly talented students are: Riley Davis, Matt Logan (from PLHS), Chantelle Davis, Dani Winchester, Anna Tust, Krystal Thompson, Brandon Eddy & Austin Johanning! Those students among many other talented 8th graders have been incredible choral students and leaders for me and have made me proud to be their director; and this community should be very proud of them as well!
