Parent-Teacher Conferences
Staying on Course
Just as a compass lets a navigator know what direction he is headed, a conference between parents and teachers lets a family know where their student is headed. This year, the Winter conferences are scheduled for Wednesday, February 1, from 4:00 until 8:00, and on Thursday, February 2, from 2:00 until 8:00. Evening conferences are designed to be convenient for most patrons, but other times may be requested as well by contacting the school office. PLHS and PLMS are using the online sign-up procedure for the Wednesday conferences, which has already been used by several families with great success. PLHS & PLMS Parent/Teacher Conference Information
What can be accomplished at a conference? Parents can speak with school staff including teachers, coaches, counselors, and administrators to clear up any questions they may have. Teachers can address any learning problems that they may be seeing, in an informal way. Summer school and credit recovery plans may be discussed.
Students sometimes discourage parents from attending these conferences, especially as they move into the high school years. Experts have told us many times that it is important to remain connected to the school throughout a child's career. It shows that you care enough to give your time to a conversation about just one thing: the student!
Navigators know that a small error in setting a course can be corrected early without too much trouble. This same error, left undetected, can have long-term consequences including running out of fuel or ending up in an unexpected place. We look forward to working with families to ensure that each student finishes the year in the right place!
