PLHS Local Scholarships - Descriptions and Deadlines

The following is a list of our local scholarships. They either need to be submitted electronically or hand delivered to Mrs. Paramore.  We strongly advise they should not be handwritten! 

Hamm Foundation Scholarship– one scholarship to a graduating senior who will attend a community college or technical school and who plan a vocational or technical career in heavy construction or a related field (diesel mechanics, hydraulics, etc.) 
 

Deadline:  April 1


First State Bank & Trust Scholarship – two scholarships will be awarded to students exhibiting scholastic attainment, leadership, participation and citizenship.

The Jennifer Then Memorial Scholarship– seniors with a 3.0 or higher cumulative GPA.
 

Deadline:  April 1


Perry Lecompton High School Student Council Leadership Scholarshipfor students who have demonstrated leadership qualities.  Must be nominated by a staff member to receive an application.

The Rural Township Auxiliary Scholarship  This scholarship is to encourage and assist students in pursuing post-secondary education.  Must be a resident of the Rural Township. Must be enrolled in some type of education after high school.  Emphasis is placed on community involvement.  Must have at least a 2.8 GPA.

The PRHS/PLHS Alumni Scholarship– seniors with a 2.5 cumulative GPA attending college, trade, or vo-tech after high school may apply.  Applicant must have a record of community and school involvement.  A REQUIREMENT FOR RECEIVING THIS SCHOLARSHIP IS ATTENDING THE ALUMNI BANQUET.

USD 343 Classified Employee’s Scholarship Award – this scholarship is not based on need or academic merit, but rather seeks to reward those sincere students who exhibit strength of purpose in their future planning.  Must enroll in an accredited vocational or technical school or two or four year college or university.  Requires 3-5 letters of recommendation.

The Lonnie Hunter Memorial Scholarship   to assist a student who has participated in at least one PLHS athletic program, who will attend a two or four year college or any vocational/technical school and who has attended PLHS for at least two years.

The USD 343 Endowment Fund– a scholarship for any post-secondary school.  Applicant must have a 3.0 cumulative GPA or higher.

The USD 343 Vocational/Technical Scholarship AwardCriteria includes involvement in community service while in high school, completion of classes in any of the three vocational/technical areas, participation in vocational/technical organizations and student completion of application.  Minimum GPA of 2.5 is required.

Blue Krew Scholarship– a scholarship which recognizes contributions to PLHS school spirit.

Lisa Worthington’s Scholarship for Students with Disabilities -  this scholarship is established to further educate a student with a physical disability.  It is payable to any accredited 2-4 year school.  Requires an essay of at least 300 words.

The Thomas D. and Leone M. Hotchkiss Scholarship Fund – first consideration for elementary or secondary education majors.  Must have at least a 2.5 cumulative GPA.

Manderson Memorial Scholarship– to assist students in pursuing education after high school.

The Catherine and Homer Thomason Nursing Scholarship Fund  This scholarship is for a Jefferson County graduating senior (will accept PLHS person regardless of residence) who will enter college or a nursing school with the intention of becoming a nurse. The person must be a well-rounded individual, committed to academic excellence and community service.  A letter of recommendation from school counselor or person currently in the medical profession must also be provided.

The Lawrence Memorial Hospital Auxiliary Scholarship– a $1000 scholarship for a Douglas county  (competition between Eudora, Baldwin, Lecompton) student interested in pursuing a career in health care.  Special consideration will be given to those who have served as junior volunteers or those who have worked or volunteered in some aspect of health care, but is not required.
