Technology in Action
Marty Strait
Eighth graders at PLMS may select Computer Technology as an elective for one semester. Students learn to use a digital camera, download photos onto a computer and edit those photos. They also use a scanner and several software packages to produce their final projects. Each semester the class takes a field trip to Topeka for a photo workshop at Wolfe’s Camera, and then follows it with an afternoon of practice at the Topeka Zoo. Click on the slide show to view some of the photos we took during our last trip.

One of our main course objectives is to create and maintain a web site covering activities here at PLMS. Many pages are created using graphics and images found in on line, but some students create their own backgrounds to enhance the work they want displayed. Check out the PLMS Homepage link below to see all of the activities covered so far this year.
The second project these students develop throughout the year is the PLMS Yearbook. Early in the year, students select a cover, and make some initial planning choices. Our yearbook is created and submitted entirely on line. All photos are entered into the yearbook through a software package from Taylor publishing, and photos are uploaded directly to their server in Texas. As the sections of the book are completed, they are published for printing with the click of a button.
Visit our homepage and view pages at your leisure. This site will give you a glimpse into a day in our classroom.
