Perry-Lecompton Ready to Begin Big 7 League Play
by J.B. Elliott
Beginning this school year, PLHS will start competition with their new league schools; Hiawatha, Holton, Royal Valley (Hoyt), Jefferson West (Meriden), Sabetha, Nemaha Valley (Seneca), and Santa Fe Trail (Carbondale), another newcomer to the Big 7 League.
As some of you may know, PLHS has been a member of the Kaw Valley League since its inception in 1981. However, due to the rapid student population growth of many of the Kaw Valley League schools in the Kansas City Metro area, it was determined that the schools in the Big 7 League would be a better fit it terms of size. Just to cite a couple examples of size, Turner High Schools lists 1,227 students in grades 9-12, Mill Valley High school lists 821 students in grades 9-12., Basehor-Linwood High School lists 761 students in grades 9-12, Lansing High School lists 721 students in grades 9-12 and Bonner Springs High School lists 694 students in grades 9-12. Currently Perry-Lecompton High School has 342 students in grades 9-12. (Data from taken from www.greatschools.net).
We are looking forward to competing against these new schools for many years to come. If you are interested in more information concerning the schools of the Big 7 League, please click on the links to their websites listed below:
