School District Review Set to Begin
Surveys available through October 1.
by Denis Yoder
USD #343 has volunteered to undergo an effectiveness and efficiency review through the Center for Innovative School Leadership (CISL). CISL was created by the Kansas Legislature in 2004 as a cooperative endeavor between Emporia State University, Pittsburg State University and Fort Hays State University. The goal of CISL is to identify best practices, cost savings, and potential effectiveness and efficiency strategies for school districts in the four protocol areas of facilities management, human resources, leadership, and teaching and learning.
The USD #343 effectiveness and efficiency review will begin on September 3 with a climate survey to identify public perceptions and attitudes toward the school district. Surveys will be made available to high school students, parents/patrons, teachers, classified staff, and administration/board of education members.
Parent/patrons can access the climate survey through the link provided below through October 1, 2010. If parents/patrons prefer to complete a paper/pencil survey, hard copies of the survey along with stamped return envelopes are available upon request through the District Office. Again we ask that all paper/pencil surveys be completed and mailed no later than October 1.
An on-site review is planned for mid-October where a sample of all surveyed groups will be interviewed.
CISL will present a summary of its findings at a board of education meeting approximately four to six weeks after the conclusion of the on-site visit. A full report detailing all findings from the review process will be created by CISL and provided to the district.
