MAP Testing Starts Soon
by Judy Chamberlain
Now that students are in their classes and the first few days of school are over, it is time to start the annual round of testing. We hope that your children will remember everything they learned last year, but it is important for the teachers to know exactly where each student stands academically, early in the year.
All students in grades three through ten will take Measures of Academic Progress tests in Reading, Math, and Science between August 29 and September 16. These tests are taken on the computer, and will give teachers timely information that they can use to adjust instruction to meet the needs of each student; since the scoring is immediate, the students will receive feedback as soon as they finish taking each test.
In the Spring, the students will once again take the MAP tests. They will be able to see clear evidence of their own progress over the course of the year. The MAP system maintains a file of each student’s scores, so that families will have a one-page profile of the student’s growth.
You can support your child’s performance by making sure that he or she is well-rested and has eaten a nutritious breakfast each day. We look forward to seeing the results as we start another year of learning!
