USD #343 Enrollment Numbers Up!
USD #343 school officials are pleased to report that the district’s enrollment numbers are up over the previous year for the first time since the 2000-2001 school year. K-12 student “head count” numbers reflect a district enrollment of 968 students on September 21, the official state student count day in Kansas public schools.
This number represents an increase of 16 students over the 2008 audited total, and is over 40 students more than was anticipated for the start of the 2009-2010 school year. When looking at all students attending USD #343 schools, including pre-school and non-graded students, our district enrollment numbers increased from 969 in 2008-09 to 994 students on September 21, 2009.
The unexpected boost in enrollment has been seen in each of the district's attendance centers. Below Below is a table of our K-12 enrollment numbers in each building. The Perry-Lecompton Pre-Kindergarten program which is now housed at Perry Elementary is not included in the Perry Elementary enrollment numbers listed below.
| Perry Elementary (K-1) | 127 |
| Lecompton Elementary (2-4) | 197 |
| Perry-Lecompton Middle School (5-8) | 303 |
| Perry-Lecompton High School (9-12) | 341 |
This increase in enrollment numbers is good news since our school district's funding is based on the number of students attending our schools. The increase in student numbers is especially welcome news in light of funding reductions in state aid.
We are hopeful the enrollment increases seen in 2009-2010 will signal the start of a new trend of student growth in USD #343 schools!
