Summer Fun on Study Island

by Judy Chamberlain

“In the good old Summer time…”

The first few days of Summer vacation are so exciting!  Once the novelty wears off, however, many families are looking for a good way to occupy students and keep their Math and Reading skills up to date.  This year, every student in grades three through eight will have the option of signing on the Study Island website (www.studyisland.com) anywhere they have internet access.

Study Island is more than just lessons-- there are games as well!  The students have individual accounts and passwords, and worked with their teachers in May to make sure that they could navigate within the site.  We are happy to let all patrons know that there will be an “open lab” time on Wednesday, May 27, from 6:00 to 7:00 at PLMS.  Interested family members may drop in with their children to meet with teachers and check out the site.  Mrs. Packard and Ms. Case would love to see you there.

Once the students are back in the buildings in August, they will receive awards and recognition for having met their goals.  We are excited about the possibilities for every third through eighth grader to stay current with Kansas standards in Reading and Math, and start next year ready to move to even higher levels of achievement.
