Thank You, Custodians!

by Judy Chamberlain

USD 343 is proud of the custodians who maintain our buildings and grounds.  This week is the time when we like to hold their work up, and to thank them for their many hours of effort behind the scenes.  They are an essential part of our team!

Several years ago, this district studied the Effective Schools Correlates identified by Dr. Larry Lezotte.  One of these seven correlates is maintaining a safe and positive environment for students, which our custodians impact very directly: they are prompt in addressing such safety hazards as wet floors and icy sidewalks, and they routinely provide excellent environmental quality by replacing light bulbs, emptying trash, disinfecting drinking fountains, and keeping the public use areas clean and fresh.  In addition to these duties, our custodians make sure that the fire extinguishers are kept charged and ready.  They are also trained in disposing of many kinds of hazardous waste.

Be sure to thank our custodians often, and especially this week!
