School News:
Library: Starting in March, students at PES will not be able to check out library books until mid April. This is due to replacing our current library circulation system. We are replacing our out-dated system with a new program called Destiny. This will be a great addition to our library and it will provide students and teachers easier access to our online catalog. In order to make this conversion we have to do an inventory freeze to successfully transfer records to the new system. We hope that with this inconvience, parents and patrons will utilize the new Perry-Lecompton Public library as well as Topeka and Lawrence Public Libraries. Thank you for your patience and cooperation with this change.
Social Action Committee: For their third service learning project the Social Action Committee made fleece blankets for children at an orphanage in Solola, Guatemala. The ten blankets. The blankets were hand delivered on Valentine's Day by a team from Northland Church. The students enjoyed this project and would like to thank the Perry Elementary PTO for purchasing the material. Now that the blankets have been delivered we are anxious to see pictures of the children who received our blankets!
PE: The 6th annual “Spring
Fling Bowling Trip” will take place this month:
3/11- 3rd & 1st grades and 3/12- 4th & 2nd grades.
Where: Westridge Fun Center-Topeka
When: 12:15-2:30 pm
Cost: $5.00
This is a great opportunity for all students to participate in a life time sporting event. If you have any questions please contact the office.
Growing Up
Online:
MySpace.
YouTube. Facebook. Friendster. Nearly every adolescent in
America is on the Internet every day, socializing with friends and
strangers alike, "trying on" identities, and building a virtual
profile of themselves--one that many kids insist is a more honest
depiction of who they really are than the person they portray at
home or in school. In Growing Up Online, FRONTLINE peers inside the
world of this cyber-savvy generation through the eyes of teens and
their parents, who often find themselves on opposite sides of a new
digital divide. A generation with a radically different notion of
privacy and personal space; today's adolescents are grappling with
issues their parents never had to deal with: from cyber bullying to
instant "Internet fame”. FRONTLINE investigates the risks,
realities, and misconceptions of adolescent self-expression on the
World Wide Web. www.pbs.org/frontline/kidsonline<http://www.pbs.org/frontline/kidsonline>
Dr. Seuss
at school:Everyone at PES
had a wonderful time celebrating Dr. Seuss and literature the week
of 2/25. Green Day, Crazy Hat Day, Sweats Day, Crazy,
Socks Day & Pajama Day!
A “heartfelt” thank you to all the
volunteers and room parents who helped to make our Valentine’s Day
so very special!

PES Heart
Adventure was a huge success. Students learned all about our
body’s blood flow and how important physical activity is to a
productive life style. Thank you to Mrs. Bradney and Mike
Miller for transforming the gym into a heart!
The PTO sponsored Sock Hop and Book Fair was a huge success. A special Thank You to all those who helped make this event possible.
