Foreign Exchange Student Hosting Opportunities

By Susan Alexander

February 16, 2008

If you have ever considered hosting a foreign student, please contact Susan Alexander, co-sponsor of the PLHS International Club. Dr. Alexander works with Nacel/Open Door, a non-profit student hosting program. Host families have the opportunity to select students from the countries of their choice with interests that will match with their own families' interests. In addition, Nacel sponsors students in the Foreign Leadership Exchange program (FLEX) who come from the former Soviet Socialist Republics and have won the opportunity to attend a year of high school in the US through strenuous competition conducted by the US State Department.

Host families provide students with room and board, but students bring their own spending money. Host families do not have to have children but do need to plan to provide their students with the opportunity to spend time with students their own age.

The PLHS International Club functions as a hosting organization for all foreign students. If you are interested in hosting, Dr. Alexander can be reached at salexander@usd343.org or by phone at PLHS.
