Twelve students and three adults caught the bus at 9 a.m. on the eighth of September. They were members of FBLA headed off to Bracker’s Good Earth Clays, Lawrence Journal World, and Channel 6 news to tour their facilities.
The Future Business Leaders of America’s first stop was Lawrence
Journal World. “It was cool finding out where everything was. There
was tons of paper and we got to see all the machines that were used
to print,” remembers Abbey Bays PLHS freshman.
The next stop was Channel Six news. They toured the station and the
students got to experience what the green wall was like. Some even
read off of the prompter. “The tour was really focused on
technology,” said Mrs. Dugan FBLA sponsor.
“Pretending to broadcast was fun and we were able to see all the
technology they use to produce their show” recalled Abbey Bays. “We
played with a thing called an invisible cloak; basically it was an
on camera feature that could make half of your body disappear.”
It was off for a quick lunch at EL Mez Cal then off to the last
business; Bracker’s Good Earth Clays. Students and sponsors learned
how the family owned business was started. Bracker’s even buys and
sells globally. “It was exciting to learn about all the clays
coming from all over world,” added Abbey. “We learned about how
much effort you have to put in to have a successful business”
“I think the students enjoyed it,” said Mrs. Dugan. After Brackers
it was off to the bus for the ride home and by 1:40 the Future
Business Leaders of America were back in class.
