Kaws Basketball Sweeps Maranatha

by Staff

December 10, 2007

The Kaw Boy's Basketball program is off to a great start and that great start could not be more evident than it was on Friday night as all three teams picked up wins vs Maranatha.

The Freshman/Sophomore team continued its hot streak knocking off the Eagles 49-36 in a game that was never in doubt. Their second victory on the season came just a week after their season opening win vs Baldwin. The Freshman/Sophomore team is now 2-0 on the young season.

The Kaw JV squad battled a tough Maranatha group and were able to hang on for the 53-45 victory. Tough defense by the Junior Kaws helped pull this one out and give them their first win of the season.

After a dominate performance by the Lady Kaws, who simply crushed Maranatha 49-16. Senior Jamie Fuller had a huge game offensively scoring 15 points for the Kaws and Fuller dropped in 3 3-point baskets. Holly Fornelli, Megan Elder and Katie Volle all chipped in 6 points a piece to round out the balanced scoring attack.

The Lady Kaw's pressing defense forced the Lady Eagles into turnover after turnover and Maranatha could never get anything positive going. The outstanding Kaw defense held Maranatha to just 5 points in the first half.

Shifting back over to the Boy's Basketball team, the Kaws broke open a close game in the 3rd quarter courtesy of 3 consecutive Shane Gimzo 3 pointers  and went on to a 60-44 victory over Maranatha. Gimzo led all scorers with 22 points , 20 of those coming in the second half and Gimzo chipped in 6 rebounds and 3 steals. Kyle Morgison added 16 points.
